Zellige: the art of Moroccan tiles
Run your hand over a zellige wall and you feel it: every tile is slightly different. That small irregularity is what gives Moroccan zellige its depth and its glow.
Handmade, piece by piece
Zellige is made from clay that is shaped, dried, glazed and fired, then cut by hand into small pieces. Craftsmen assemble them into plain surfaces or into intricate geometric patterns. The city of Fez is especially known for this craft.
Light and colour
Because each piece is hand-glazed, the colour varies from tile to tile, and the surface catches the light like water. It is used on walls, fountains, floors and, very often, in bathrooms.

Four colours at Dar Amna
Each suite of Dar Amna has its own zellige bathroom: emerald green in Suite One, honey in Suite Two, deep chocolate in Suite Three and soft sand in Suite Four.
