Ramadan in Marrakech: what travellers should know
Ramadan, the month of fasting, moves earlier each year in the calendar. Visiting Marrakech during this time is entirely possible, and can be a beautiful experience if you know what to expect.
What changes
Many Moroccans fast from dawn to sunset. Daytime is calmer, some shops and restaurants change their hours, and the city comes alive in the evening.
Iftar, the evening meal
At sunset, the fast is broken with dates, milk and harira soup, followed by a festive meal. The streets fill with a warm, joyful atmosphere late into the night.

Respectful tips
- Avoid eating, drinking or smoking in the street during the day.
- Check opening hours of sights and restaurants in advance.
- Expect a slower pace during the day and lively evenings.
At the villa
At Dar Amna you live at your own rhythm, with a fully equipped kitchen and, on request, a private cook.
