Jardin Majorelle and the YSL Museum: tips for your visit
With its cactus, bamboo, fountains and electric blue walls, the Jardin Majorelle is one of the most famous gardens in the world, and one of the essential visits in Marrakech.
A painter’s garden
The garden was created by the French painter Jacques Majorelle, who gave his name to its intense blue. Decades later, Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé bought it and saved it, and it became a place of pilgrimage for lovers of colour and design.
What to see
- The garden itself, with plants from around the world
- The small museum dedicated to Berber arts, inside the blue villa
- Next door, the Yves Saint Laurent Museum, devoted to the designer’s work

Tips
- Buy your tickets online in advance: queues can be long.
- Go at opening time for the softest light and fewer visitors.
- Plan about an hour for the garden, more if you visit the museums.
A taste of colour at Dar Amna
Colour lives at the villa too: Moroccan paintings, Berber pottery and bathrooms in emerald, honey, chocolate and sand-toned zellige.
